Maiden to Mother - The Rite of Passage into Feminine Power

Oct 17, 2025

When a woman is pregnant the first time she stands on the threshold between who she has been and who she is becoming.
Between the Maiden and the Mother.

Birth is the moment the Maiden must dissolve and the Mother must be rise.

This transition is not only biological, it is emotional, spiritual, cultural and deeply archetypal.

It asks a woman to die to the old self, to release the illusion of control, and to trust the primal intelligence that lives within her bones, her blood, her womb.

Remembering What Birth Truly Is

Birth is designed to Show Woman her Power.

It's a ceremony, a weaving between worlds, where the veil is thin and she meets all her fears and is pushed to her limits.

In this sacred act, a woman not only brings forth new life, but she is births her new self.

As the Mother.

But in our modern world, we have largely forgotten this truth.

We have medicalized the mystery.

We have replaced ceremony with clinical routine and procedures.

And in doing so, many women...

How to Be a Positive & Supportive Presence in the Birth Space

Feb 27, 2025

In a world where birth is too often managed in sterile hospital settings, filled with medical interventions instead of deep support, love, and presence, women are left feeling unheard, disempowered, and even traumatized with 1 in 3 women reporting having a traumatic birth and 1 in 20 developing PTSD from their births.

I believe with the right support it doesn't have to be this way.

As a former midwife, I have seen this firsthand, and it has ignited a deep calling within me—to both embody The Sacred Birth Advocate & Space Holder for the Rite of Passage of Birth myself, and to also educate and mentor those who wish to do and embody the same.

This blog post explores how you can be a protector of a woman’s, her baby's and her family's birth experience and how to offer positive support during this transformational and pivotal moment in life.

Holding Sacred Spaces

Being a Sacred Birth Advocate & Space Holder isn’t just about understanding the physiology of natural birth — it’s...

Reclaiming Birth as a Rite of Passage - with Rachel Reed
The Natural Birth Podcast Season 5

Australias national treasure Dr. Rachel Reed, author, midwife, teacher, speaker and researcher guested The Natural Birth Podcast in January of 2021.

She was just finishing up her book Reclaiming Birth as a Rite of Passage and had just started The Midwife's Cauldron Podcast with Katie James.

And I had the pleasure of interviewing her about her births and pick her cleaver brain on all things birth as a rite of passage.

There's lots of pearls of wisdoms and gems in this conversation, and a lot of laughs as well.

Rachel is just so funny.

I loved our conversation and I hope you'll enjoy listening to it as well.

So let me introduce Rachel to you, if you've been living under a rock for the last few years and don't know this brilliant woman.

Rachel is a mum of two and a midwife and doctor of philosophy committed to the promotion of physiological birth and women’s rights.

In our episode we ...
