WE are often the ones keeping ourselves from our destiny, our purpose, heck even our own happiness.
Why do we do it?
Whether it’s the fear of financial instability, uncertainty about what training to choose, or concerns about balancing birth work with personal life, many who feel drawn to this path hesitate to take the leap of faith.
Maybe it’s too scary to leave a comfortable, safe job and pursue your true calling… for most it is. Most people don’t follow their purpose but sit on the sidelines watching others do it.
And I am not saying these concerns aren’t valid.
They Totally are. And they deserve to be explored.
Because beneath them lies the truth.
So let’s face some of the most common fears and objections to daring to follow one's calling into birth work.
Many aspiring birth workers worry about the unpredictability of being on-call, attending births at all hours, and how this might impact their families and personal lives.
And it’s true—birth work requires a level of flexibility that not all careers do. But it’s also possible to create a rhythm that works for you.
Many doulas and birth workers establish on-call schedules, take breaks between clients, or limit the number of births they attend per month to create balance.
Some focus on pre-conception, pregnancy and postpartum care or offer virtual support, which allows them to work with families without the unpredictability of labor support.
Others build a team or referral network, so they don’t have to shoulder the work alone.
The key is to design your birth work practice in a way that honors your own needs and lifestyle—just as much as it supports the women you serve.
In The Sacred Birth Worker Mentorship we work a lot on self development and creating balance within oneself first and from this place finding outer balance is easier.
The mentorship also teaches you skills from preconception to postpartum as well as holding women’s circles and working with women throughout all her rites of passages making where and how you can work broad and fit into any kind of lifestyle and current life situation you are in.
One of the biggest challenges birth workers face is stepping into a system that often prioritizes interventions, hospital policies, and efficiency over upholding the physiology of birth and serving the woman holistically.
Many who feel called to birth work are deeply intuitive, heart-led individuals who recognize that modern maternity care is not always aligned with what women truly need. It can feel intimidating to enter that space and advocate for a different way of doing things.
While hospital policies may not always be supportive of undisturbed birth, birth workers who are deeply educated, self-assured, and well-versed in physiological birth as well as birth advocacy can still make a profound difference within all birth settings.
Learning how to advocate for women and feel confident is a skill that can be cultivated. And in the Sacred Birth Worker Mentorship, we go deep into understanding the system—its limitations, its benefits, and how to work within and around it to best support birthing women.
We also provide a supportive community to come into and debrief and get support from when we experience positive as well as negative experiences as birth workers.
There’s a common misconception that birth work is only a side passion, not something that can sustain a long-term career.
Many people assume that only midwives have stable incomes, while doulas and other birth workers struggle to make ends meet. And this is true for many.
The biggest reason is that self employment is the biggest self development journey you’ll ever take.
And it has Nothing to do with being a birth worker or not.
It’s about, are you doing the inner work?
The Sacred Birth Worker Mentorship is unique in that we look at the sisterhood wound, the witch wound, the imposter syndrome, I am not worthy crap and fear of being seen throughout the whole mentorship and we dive deep to unearth what is keeping us from shining our light in the world.
Once that is done. You, who’s the biggest hindrance to your success (let’s be honest), is out of the way.
Birth work IS a growing field, and women are actively seeking more holistic, intuitive support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
The birth workers that succeed go beyond traditional doula work and create their own unique offerings—whether it’s combining birth work with coaching, energy healing, women’s circles, or other modalities.
Some offer online courses, mentorship, or community programs.
The key is stepping outside of the mainstream doula model and building a birth work practice that is both deeply aligned with you and financially sustainable.
The Sacred Birth Worker Mentorship provides this for you. Both in knowledge and skills and the areas you can work in after you’ve taken the program.
Birth work is undeniably intense—both physically and emotionally.
The unpredictability of birth means being on-call, attending long labors, and witnessing the full spectrum of human experience, from ecstatic, undisturbed births to moments that require deep emotional processing.
It’s natural to wonder if you’re capable of holding space for such powerful transitions without becoming overwhelmed.
But like any deep meaningful work, birth work is not about being immune to the intensity—it’s about learning how to navigate it with resilience.
The key is building a strong foundation of self-care, setting boundaries, and cultivating practices that replenish your energy.
Surrounding yourself with a supportive community of other birth workers is also invaluable; having a network where you can debrief, process, and receive guidance makes all the difference.
When approached with intention, birth work becomes not just something you give to others, but something that also nourishes and transforms you.
It’s the most magical work you can ever do.
And in The Sacred Birth Worker Mentorship you learn resilience and cultivate practices that replenishes you and you are surrounded by a supportive community 24/7 cheering you on and holding you whatever you are coming with.
Imposter syndrome is real, especially in birth work.
Because birth is such a profound experience, many aspiring birth workers feel like they need to know everything before they can begin supporting women.
They worry about whether they have the right training, whether they’ll know what to do or say in the moment, and whether they’re truly "ready" to step into this role.
The truth is, birth work is a lifelong learning journey. Embodiment takes time.
There will always be more to learn, but that shouldn’t stop you from starting by taking the leap of faith and following your passion, your calling.
Some of the most powerful birth workers are those who have spent years getting deeply attuned to birth—not through textbooks, but through lived experience, through sitting with women, through listening and learning from wise elders in the space.
Training programs and mentorship can provide the knowledge, structure, and confidence needed to step into this work.
But at the end of the day, cultivating yourself as a good birth worker is about getting out there and doing the work, practicing and cultivating your presence and ability to hold space.
And it’s Not about having all the answers. The Woman is the Expert. You will never be more qualified than her. So relax. She doesn’t need you to.
One of the biggest concerns aspiring birth workers have is the financial investment required to get started.
Birth Worker & doula programs, trainings, and mentorships come with a cost, and it can feel daunting to invest in education before you’re earning an income from birth work.
Additionally, there’s often uncertainty about whether this work will be financially sustainable long-term.
But studying to become a birth worker is not just an expense—it’s an investment in a skillset, a career, and a calling that has the potential to bring deep fulfillment and financial sustainability if you choose the right path.
Many birth workers find that they quickly earn back their costs within their first few clients, especially if they position themselves well and offer services true to themselves and therefore their soul clients.
Additionally, there are often payment plans that can help ease the financial burden.
The truth is, there is always a way to make it work when you are deeply committed to this path.
The value you bring to women and families is immeasurable, and when you step fully into this work, the energy exchange of financial compensation follows.
When we want something bad enough and it’s a true calling we move heaven and earth to make it happen.
We do.
And I have seen this over and over again.
The money excuse is usually compensating for another fear mentioned above.
Look beneath. What are you truly afraid of?
Stepping into birth work is a courageous and deeply rewarding path, but it’s natural to have doubts along the way.
Whether your concern is financial stability, lack of experience, or navigating the medical system, know that these challenges are not roadblocks—they are part of the journey.
Every birth worker starts somewhere, and the world desperately needs more people who honor birth as a sacred rite of passage rather than just a medical event.
If you feel the call, trust that it is there for a reason.
For those ready to move beyond hesitation and step fully into birth work, the Sacred Birth Worker Mentorship provides the deep knowledge, skills, and personal transformation needed to thrive in this role.
